Sweet Valley High: The Movie – OH YES.

I had no idea Regina was deaf, but I did know she died from a cocaine overdose. Man, she was hardcore.

Sweet Valley High, the series that made you want to be a blonde, size 6 (that’s US, so size 10 UK, which is promoting a very healthy body image) twin with sea green eyes that drove a Spider and live in Sweet Valley, CA where the sun always shines and for some reason a strange amount of paranormal activity went on. Perhaps it was Sweet Valley that was over the Hellmouth instead.

Diablo Cody, who won an Oscar for her smart screenplay to Juno, is attached to write a big-screen adaptation of Sweet Valley High, the long-running series of teen-oriented books which was also made into a TV show.

Diablo Cody’s heading back to high school, signing on to write and produce an adaptation of the “Sweet Valley High” book series for Universal. Mason Novick, Adam Siegel and Marc Platt are also producing.

U agreed to a deal with Cody and her manager Novick, outbidding Fox for the project. It’s in talks to acquire the film rights to the book series created by Francine Pascal and published by Random House.

The “Sweet Valley” novels followed the lives of identical twins with dissimilar personalities — the sensitive and practical Elizabeth and the flighty and boy-crazy Jessica — in the fictional town of Sweet Valley. There were more than 150 books in the series between 1983 and 2003 and a TV series with 88 episodes between 1994 and 1997. The last book, “Sweet Valley University,” was published in 2003. In addition to several spin-off series, the books were also made into a TV show that ran from 1994 to 1997.

Lemondrop have very nicely speculated who they’d pick for the characters. So who do they see starring in an edgier “Sweet Valley” for the 21st century?

I wish the original cast weren’t much older now, because Michael Perl (who played Winston) was HOT. He wasn’t meant to be… but he really was.

And Lemondrop also reveals that the SVH kids are on Twitter. Yessiree, you can keep up with the goings on of the Patman, Lila Fowler, Regina who has been mysteriously raised from the dead (*cough* Hellmouth) and that drip Todd Wilkins to name a few.

There’s a lot of @diablocody going on, so maybe this is some kind of viral marketing for the movie? Who cares, we’re hitting follow!
