Yeasayer – “Odd Blood

Album Review

Artist: Yeasayer

Album: Odd Blood

Released in the UK 8th February

The second album of the Brooklyn based “Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel” band, in their own words, Yeasayer, outshines their debut album “All Hour Cymbals” and most of their contemporaries by long way. The album triumphs in textural glory, the material tones hailing from the instruments is quite exquisite. Earthy wood and eeire glass sounds dominate the album, providing impressionistic backdrops for singer Chris Keating to weave his  modest but alluring missives.

The album recalls all kinds of influences and flavours: Paul Simon, Human League and Kraftwerk to name a few, culminating in “One”which treads a little close to the ground of Graceland but manages to make up for it with the sweet melancholy of the chorus; “No you don’t move me anymore, and i’m glad that you don’t”

Overall a much more enjoyable listen that Vampire Weekends latest offering.
