SAYWHUT? Lindsay Lohan is creative director at Ungaro???

See the SS10 collection here.

Yes faithful readers – you read that right! Lindsay Lohan, who is unfortunately most famous for hooking up with Samantha Ronson and subsqequently getting merked in every publication there is going rather than her acting, singing or leggings company which btw in the collection have a pair with kneepads. I’ll leave you with that thought.

Poor Lohan has been ripped into more times than a freshly baked loaf of spelt bread, but unfortunately this collab with Ungaro hasn’t really helped. Emanuel Ungaro has become synonymous with the faded glory days of a lot of fashion houses, and has been losing money from their runway collections for years. Who can forget about poor Christian Lacroix? :(

Esteban Cortazer was fired after his refusal to work with Lohan and ‘hastily’ replaced with Estrella Archs (which you will notice isn’t hyperlinked because I have two words for you – ‘Who exactly?’ – even Wikipedia had no idea.)

“With French fashion in a state of disarray due to the ongoing effects of the recession, which has already claimed at least one couture house in Christian Lacroix, several editors here at Paris Fashion Week have expressed concerns that other European houses may attempt to further their associations with celebrities like Ms. Lohan just to generate publicity.”

Bit of a risk for the house of Ungaro to take, non? Well considering this collab with Lohan has every news agency and publication bleating about it, they like Lohan, have got their 15 minutes of fame. For SS10 at least. But for the business side I’m not sure how that exposure will turn into fiscal rewards.

And I wouldn’t be so mean if the collection wasn’t so offensive to my eyes. Heart-shaped pasties?? This isn’t the MTV VMAs you know. I was feeling the vibrant shades however, and the prints, not the way they were used though, and there were echoes of the tailoring that made Emanuel Ungaro’s name in the 80s. (My dad has an Ungaro jacket he lost in the 90s, but we have a picture of it on our TV.)

But for Lohan bringing a younger, fresher side to Emanuel Ungaro, young I see, but even her own colleagues don’t seem to be rooting for her. Apparently the collection was thrown together in 3 weeks, oh dear. Perhaps if she had a bit more time, the collection may have looked a little less tacky and more refined. But who knows. I mean you have to kind of feel bad for her, the one-shouldered dresses have potential, if they were draped better and were a few inches longer in length. There’s young and then there’s just slapdash tailoring. So many pieces would have been so much better if they had spent longer in the atelier.

“Mounir Moufarrige, Ungaro’s chief executive officer, is said to be pushing for a celebrity for future ad campaigns to help wake up the house, and has been in talks with about half a dozen potential candidates, including Lindsay Lohan, but they would have nothing to do with design.”

Hold the phone! So she had nothing to do with it, and it looks that bad?

I thought I’d put in some choice snippets from the press here..

“…quite simply, an embarassment… As for the clothes, they looked cheesy and dated.”
WWD

“In a baffling move, many of the models had larger versions of the pasties affixed to their foreheads.”
Associated Press

“Call the fashion police!…We love Lindsay Lohan — as an actress.”
Fabien Baron, The New York Times

“‘You know,’ Glenda Bailey, the editor of Bazaar said before a question was half asked, ‘if you don’t mind, I have to run out the door.’”
The New York Times

“Looks like it’s time to go back to the day job, Ms Lohan.”
Marie Claire UK

“Ms. Lohan’s arrival at a 45-year-old Paris house known for $1,500 dresses and a tradition of couture craftsmanship is entirely different, something akin to a McDonald’s fry cook taking the reins of a three-star Michelin restaurant.” -
The New York Times

And probably the best one of all…

“She’s that ginger child actress who has gone crazy, right?”
Filmaker, Aqeel Ahmed.

Thanks so much for this! The celebrities-in-fashion thing has gone too far. (And those press comments were hilarious btw.)
